DATA BEING COLLECTED: Employment in BiH Institutions Ends at Age 65 or 40 Years of Service

(Patria) - At the last session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, a deputy initiative by Šemsudin Mehmedović was adopted, obliging the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina to respect and implement the laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina which stipulate that employment in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina terminates by force of law when the employee reaches 65 years of age or 40 years of pensionable service, unless otherwise prescribed by a special law for certain categories of employees.

Along with this initiative, the House also adopted the following conclusions:

- The House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH obliges the Administrative Inspectorate within the Ministry of Justice of BiH to submit to the House of Representatives, within 30 days, data for institutions under its jurisdiction, in a manner that for each institution a list of all employees who have met the conditions for retirement is provided, stating the following: first and last name, position of the employee, date when the legally prescribed condition for retirement was met, and on what basis (65 years or 40 years of pensionable service).

- The House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH obliges the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Security of BiH to submit to the House of Representatives, within 30 days, data for all police institutions under its jurisdiction, in a manner that for each institution a list of all employees who have met the conditions for retirement is provided, stating the following: first and last name, position of the employee, date when the legally prescribed condition for retirement was met, and on what basis (65 years or 40 years of pensionable service).

In BiH institutions, there are personnel older than 65 years or with 40 years of service who have not been retired.

Thus, in the position of military ombudsman is Boško Šiljegović, who turned 65 in 2021, and is already in his third term in the same position.

The position of military ombudsman is regulated by the Law on the Parliamentary Military Ombudsman, and is elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH upon the proposal of the Joint Commission for Defense and Security, with candidates proposed by both members of the Commission and deputy or caucuses of peoples from both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
