Early Elections in Montenegro: (Not) Happening

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović believes there will be no new elections, but rather a model will be found to extend the mandate of the current Government. This is something that is realistic, Abazović said.

Answering a question from Zagreb's Večernji list about how likely it is that Montenegro will have new parliamentary elections, Abazović recalled that the Democratic Front, as part of the parliamentary majority, announced that they do not accept a reconstruction, but want a completely new government.

- A new government can be formed within the current majority, but it can also be of a different modality. One of the modalities could be going to early parliamentary elections. Such a solution is quite clear because whenever there is a political crisis, I think it is right to return the mandate to the citizens. One should not shy away from that, these are the achievements of democracy, but honestly, I do not think there will be new elections and that we will find a model that could extend the duration of the government in its current or some other composition - Abazović said.

The leader of the Civic Movement URA recalled that after the parliamentary elections last year, Montenegro changed its government for the first time in history.

- I did not expect any spectacular stability. Stability was the characteristic of the previous government. There was no democracy, but there was stability. A new system has now been established, in my opinion better, but which in my opinion must go through certain stages of maturation and where everyone is important - both large and small parties. Every leader, every MP is important. This majority is formed by just one MP more than the opposition. The concept has completely changed - he stated.

Abazović added that the fight against corruption and organized crime has also begun in Montenegro.
