Prijedor camp survivors endured horrors, today they are completely neglected

Ramiz Salkić, Vice President of the RS, spoke today with representatives of the Association of Camp Survivors „Prijedor 92“. The topic of the conversation was the difficult financial situation facing this association, and the poorly regulated status of members – former camp survivors, who in the area of the RS are unable to exercise their basic rights, reports the Patria news agency.  

The members of this association are camp survivors who endured the worst tortures and abuse in the death camps of Omarska, Keraterm, Trnopolje, Manjača and other places of detention, and today, as returnees to their homes, live in the area of the city of Prijedor.

-The process of searching for the missing needs to be intensified, because 23 years have already passed since the crimes were committed. During the conversation, representatives of the association of camp survivors requested that we call on citizens of this entity from the highest level, who have any information about the missing or about mass graves, to provide that information and thus contribute to the completion of a long and difficult process.

The camp survivors endured incredible horrors and should now have the protection and adequate care of the state. Unfortunately, they are still faced with searching for their loved ones, solving existential problems, and what weighs on them most is the fact that the process of arresting and trying perpetrators of war crimes and crimes of genocide has not yet been completed, said Vice President Salkić after the conversation.

He emphasized that the victims of camps throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina must receive adequate satisfaction, which is based primarily on punishing the perpetrators, finding the missing, and solving the existential issues of camp survivors.
