PRIJEDOR Parents and citizens laid flowers for 102 children, memorial next year

PRIJEDOR, (Patria) - Another Day of White Armbands was marked by a memorial walk of Prijedor survivors and parents of the 102 murdered children of Prijedor. With a white rose in one hand and a picture of the children in the other, parents left candles on the sidewalk in the main city square, as there is still no memorial where they could gather and lay flowers. 

Before the walk, participants were shown the location with which local authorities have agreed to build a memorial for the 102 murdered Prijedor children. This year, it is planned to collect the necessary documentation, as well as to announce an international competition for the conceptual design, so that the memorial would be built by next Day of White Armbands.

Fikret Bačić from the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Prijedor said today that the initiative for a memorial has existed since 2012 and that this process has been deliberately slowed down, which also indicates the attitude of the city authorities, but that discussions about it have begun today. 

The Day of White Armbands is observed in memory of 3,176 murdered Prijedor residents, as well as in memory of 1992, when the then-Serb authorities issued an order that all citizens of non-Serb nationality had to place white sheets on their houses, and if they left their homes, they had to wear white armbands.
