Six years since visa-free regime for BiH citizens was approved by the EU

Midweek marks six years since the European Union abolished visas for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania.

The decision was published in the Official Journal of the EU on 14 December, and citizens of BiH could already travel to EU countries with only a passport from 15 December. This decision does not apply to the United Kingdom and Ireland. BiH citizens still need a visa to enter these countries.

The visa abolition was a historic moment for all BiH citizens, as communication between BiH and EU member states has been greatly accelerated since that day. The visa abolition for EU member states has particularly facilitated business people from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The EU regularly monitors the quality of border control in BiH, the authorities' fight against organised crime, the system of personal document control in BiH, and other parameters.

The EU regularly receives reports on whether BiH still deserves to have a visa-free regime. Apart from a few minor objections and suggestions, the visa-free regime between BiH and the EU has not been seriously threatened so far, NAP writes.
