Nine years ago, Luciano Pavarotti, a great friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, passed away

Luciano Pavarotti passed away on this day in 2007 at the age of 72 in his native Modena. Pavarotti is also considered the best tenor of all time, as he surpassed Enrico Caruso and Mario del Monaco in popularity. He was known for his humanitarian work. He founded and hosted the annual 'Pavarotti & Friends' charity concerts in Modena, where he sang with international stars of all genres and raised funds for several UN humanitarian initiatives, writes Patria.

Sarajevo residents remember the concert he organized and where he sang with Bono and U2 in 1995, while the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was still ongoing. With the global hit 'Miss Sarajevo', he raised 1.5 million US dollars in his humanitarian project 'Concert for Bosnia'.

He established and funded the 'Pavarotti Music Centre' in Bosnia and Herzegovina, based in Mostar.
