On this day in 1953, Cocta was first introduced in Slovenia, a non-alcoholic carbonated drink, the Yugoslavian counterpart to Coca-Cola, writes the BH news agency Patria.
Even today, older generations can often be heard saying that Cocta is the drink of their youth. The father of Cocta is Emerik Zelinka, who in the 1950s mixed rosehip fruits, tart vitamin C, medicinal herbs, pure spring water, and caramelized sugar.
It got its name from the word cocktail – a mixture of ingredients.
The sparkling drink in a rounded quarter-liter glass bottle, brown in color, brought a touch of America and the West to this region. The first million liters of Cockta were produced in the same year, and to this day, only the bottle design has changed, but not its recognizable taste.
