62 years ago, the first official derby between Željezničar and Sarajevo was played

62 years ago, on August 12, 1954, the first official city derby was played between the biggest BiH football clubs, Sarajevo and Željezničar. Although FK Sarajevo was founded eight years earlier (in 1946), these two clubs had never met in an official match until then, i.e., within the Yugoslav Championship or Cup. Until then, Sarajevo and Željezničar had met 23 times in friendly and exhibition matches, in which Sarajevo had a slightly better record, with 11 wins, 4 draws, and 8 losses, and a goal difference of 56:41 in favor of the team from Košev, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

The match was played at the Grbavica stadium, in front of about 5,000 spectators who had the opportunity to see as many as seven goals. Sarajevo celebrated with a score of 5:2.
