26 years ago, Jedinstvo Aida was at the top of Europe

The basketball players of Jedinstvo Aida, in a legendary match against Italy's Primigi played in Florence on March 22, 1989, won the European champion title with a 74:70 victory, reports BH news agency Patria.

Twenty-six years later, the club is at a new beginning with a young team competing in the BiH championship. Although many will say that the current Jedinstvo BHT is not the same as the former one, the fact is that the European champion trophy is still in the club's premises.

WINNING THE TITLE

On the way to the “Palazzo dello Sport del Campo” hall, the women from Tuzla played 15 matches, recording 12 wins and three losses. The team of coach Mihajlo Vuković was defeated twice by Dinamo from Novosibirsk and once by Primigi.

Before the superfinal, even the greatest optimists did not believe that the Tuzla team, after a loss to the Italian women in Vicenza on February 14, 1989, of 77:52, would have the strength to strike back and climb to the top of Europe.

But that is exactly what Jadranka Savić, Ilvana Zvizdić, Mara Lakić, Vesna Pođanin, Dragana Jeftić, Smilja Rađenović, Razija Mujanović, Zorica Dragičević, Naida Hot, and Stojanka Došić achieved, with coaches Mihajlo Miki Vuković and Zdravko Dugonjić.

Incidentally, Vuković led the Tuzla team to the top after 16 years of dedicated work.
Primigi had won five European champion titles until then, but Vuković had Raza, Mara, Naida, Coja, Smilja… in his ranks.
