24 years ago, the Dolačka Mosque in Banja Luka was demolished

In the center of Banja Luka, before the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, there was a very beautiful mosque with a wooden minaret, which the people of Banja Luka called the Dolačka Mosque.

Next to this mosque was a large cemetery (graveyard) with many old tombstones (headstones) that protruded from the ground like stećci with large turbans. These tombstones-headstones are probably from the Turkish period, and perhaps from the Austro-Hungarian occupation of BiH.

In the mosque's cemetery, there was also the grave of a man who, during his lifetime, bequeathed land, built this mosque, and registered it as a waqf property, i.e., he gifted it to the locals to visit and maintain as long as it could be maintained.

According to mosque visitors, it was a beautiful building with a lovely interior, full of purity, and a somewhat mysterious scent. Impeccable cleanliness, in the vestibule where the congregation leaves their shoes, there was a paved area.

To the left and right were wooden platforms, and in the corner, a small room for the imam when he arrived at the mosque early. And at the entrance to the main mosque area where prayers are performed, the walls were whitewashed, not a trace of cobwebs, everything in its place, even the "peshtahta" – a small table where the hafiz places the Quran during Ramadan "mukabela".

On the walls, several levhas with texts from the Quran. The place where the imam sees the congregation during prayer is unusually tidy and decorated. The entire space is covered with carpets and prayer rugs, not a single uncovered spot.

The Dolačka Mosque was built in 1686, under the protection of UNESCO as a cultural monument of world heritage of category III.

Unfortunately, this mosque, like many others, was mined and demolished by the Serbian aggressor on September 3, 1993, and was restored in 2007.
