Police officer Muhidin Pivodić murdered 12 years ago: Gave his life performing police duties

(Patria) - The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, together with the family of the murdered police officer Muhidin Pivodić, today marked the twelfth anniversary of his brutal murder. Pivodić was a police officer of the Novi Grad Police Administration. Members of his family, friends, and colleagues gathered at the scene of his death, in the Sarajevo settlement of Reljevo.

"On this day, the family lost a son, father, husband, and brother. We lost a brother in uniform, a friend, and a colleague. The entire community lost one of its guardians. Muhidin exceptionally loved his police work and performed it conscientiously and with ease. The Police Administration, especially his Novi Grad Police Administration, cherishes the memory of Muhidin with pride and respect, and we pay due tribute to his sacrifice," said Police Commissioner Fatmir Hajdarević.

Admir Katica, Minister of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, stated that it is a moral, professional, and human obligation to preserve the memory of Muhidin Pivodić, who gave his life performing honorable police work.

"The memories of Muhidin's murder, who was killed simply because he wore a police uniform and did his job, are still painful and fresh. The perpetrator of this heinous crime and murder was sentenced to 34 years in prison, and last week we also received the verdict for the murder of our colleagues Adis and Davor, with sentences of 45 years and 15 years in prison, respectively. We need the highest legal penalties in the fight against this type of crime to send a message to everyone that they will never dare to commit such a criminal act again. Nothing can bring back Muhidin, Adis, and Davor, but I hope that the sentences handed down to the perpetrators bring some measure of peace and justice to their families," Katica emphasized.

"Our job is honorable, difficult, and carries enormous risk, but that has never deterred us in our commitment. Muhidin was one of the shining examples of such an approach. The passage of time does not ease the loss; it only broadens our perspective on the importance of the sacrifice of all our colleagues who lost their lives simply because they wore a police uniform. We are proud of all of them, and we proudly remember our Muhidin," said the president of the Sarajevo Canton Police Union, Saim Smajlović.

Delegations from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Police Administration, and the Sarajevo Canton Police Union, as well as representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Municipality of Novi Grad, laid flowers and paid tribute at the memorial in Reljevo and at the city cemetery "Bare," where Pivodić is buried.

Let us recall that police officer Muhidin Pivodić was killed in the line of duty on December 31, 2012, at the age of 36. The perpetrator of this murder was sentenced to 34 years in prison.
