Friends of BH: Perhaps future generations will have a common day of remembrance for all victims

Announcements by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić that he will propose a common day of remembrance for all victims of past conflicts in the former Yugoslavia at a conference in Vienna at the end of August have sparked a wave of criticism in parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, writes the Patria news agency.

Croatia's official policy has already announced that it will not accept Vučić's idea. Bosniaks also believe that the Serbian Prime Minister's idea is an attempt to equate victims and aggressors, and thus it is unacceptable to them as such.

Former Croatian President Ivo Josipović said in an interview with the Patria news agency that Serbia often forgets who started the wars and who attacked whom in the former Yugoslavia. The initiative, Josipović recalled, comes at a time when official policy in Serbia denies the Srebrenica genocide and imputes genocide in Croatia, contrary to the rulings of international courts.

From the Association „Friends of BH“ they state that history remembers great people, those who made the right moves at the right time, but the initiative of Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić is certainly not such a move and he will not be worthy of any significant historical mention.

- It is a humane idea to pay tribute to all victims of conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, but it is not an idea that should be revived and implemented by politicians of our time, including Aleksandar Vučić – they believe from the Association „Friends of BH“.

From the Association, they note that the idea of a common day for all victims from the former Yugoslavia is a reality for some future generations, for some new people on the political scene of all these countries that are still somehow in conflict with each other and whose peoples do not trust each other.

- These will be people who are not burdened by the war past, for whom no evidence can be found that they ever sided with retrograde ideas, they will be creators of humane policies – whose foundations must already be laid now. They will be able to recognize the opportunities available to them, they will establish consensus on many issues, including common dates for all victims – they further state from the Association „Friends of BH“.

What is possible even today, they note from the Association, is the establishment of better relations among the countries of the former Yugoslavia and the region, building mutual trust through transparent and sincere policies. We should start from what is possible and build a better future for everyone on that basis, Patria reports.
