Surviving victims, associations, parties wrote to embassies: 1995 is repeating itself in Srebrenica, now we expect a reaction

(Patria) - Genocide victims, Srebrenica associations together with all pro-Bosnian parties have sent a letter to the addresses of embassies in BiH.

"We address you as representatives of Bosniaks and genocide victims in Srebrenica.

As you are aware, on the eve of the most cherished Islamic holiday of Ramadan Bayram, and after they removed the last Bosniak from the executive authority of the Srebrenica municipality, Hamdija Fejzić, the Vice President of the Srebrenica Municipal Assembly, Miloš Milovanović, convened a thematic session of the Assembly for April 15, 2024 (Monday), where the agenda will include a decision on changing street names in Srebrenica.

While the entire world is focused on adopting the Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica, with such a decision, victims are, after 28 years, facing the continuation of ethnic cleansing and the final phase of erasing anti-fascist values in the city where the genocide was committed.

Starting Monday, the most famous sign in the world, after World War II, bearing the street name 'Reuf Selmanagić-Crni,' whose removal was ordered in 1995 by war criminal Ratko Mladić, will be erased and permanently removed.

Back then, it was done by the criminal Mladić, and 28 years later, it will be done again by councilors in the Srebrenica Municipal Assembly, whose leadership was also part of the war Presidency appointed by war criminal Radovan Karadžić 28 years ago, as well as individuals from the list of those responsible for the genocide in Srebrenica.

Ladies and gentlemen, this may be our last plea to the International Community. Abandoning us to the mercy of the followers of Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić is a message to the surviving genocide victims to leave Srebrenica forever.

It will be recorded in history that genocide victims were left to fend for themselves against an unjust system and discriminatory decisions by Serbian followers and convicted war criminals.

Therefore, we once again call on you to prevent the adoption of the decision to change the names of streets, squares, and settlements in Srebrenica. We remind you that in 1995, an identical mono-ethnic decision was adopted, which the Srebrenica Municipal Assembly annulled in 2002 and restored the pre-war street names in Srebrenica.

Serbian political parties and councilors, led by Momčilo Cvjetinović and Miloš Milovanović, want to reinstate the decision from 1995.

Hoping that this time, unlike in 1995, the reaction of the International Community will not be absent, please accept our respects," they state in the letter.
