Remaining Novo Sarajevo and Novi Grad: The Four and PZP Already Have Ten City Councilors

SARAJevo, (Patria) – The election of councilors from four municipalities to the City Council will be completed by the end of this week.

After the Old Town Municipal Council elected six out of seven councilors on January 26, and the Central Election Commission will later determine who will be awarded the seventh mandate from the Croatian people, today the Centar Municipal Council also elected seven councilors.

On Wednesday, starting at 3 PM, the 3rd urgent session of the Novo Sarajevo Municipal Council will be held, where voting for candidate lists will take place, while on Thursday, the Novi Grad Municipal Council session will be held, where city councilors will be elected.  

The Central Election Commission has certified eight candidate lists for the municipality of Novo Sarajevo, and 11 for the municipality of Novi Grad.  

According to the councilors elected so far in Old Town and Centar, nine are from the Four (NIP-3, Our Party-2, SDP BiH-3, NBL-1) and one from the Platform for Progress, who is a partner of the Four in this process according to the agreement.

It is expected that after the elections in the remaining two municipalities are completed, these parties will have a comfortable majority (more than 15 councilors), which is the minimum required to elect the mayor. There is no doubt that the mayor of Sarajevo will be Bogić Bogićević, nominated by SDP BiH, around whom there was general consensus among the Four parties even before the local elections.

Narod i pravda and Our Party will propose candidates for the two deputy mayor positions.

The City Council consists of 28 councilors. Each municipal council of the municipalities that make up the City of Sarajevo elects seven delegates to the City Council from among the municipal councilors. Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs, as constituent peoples, are individually guaranteed a minimum of 20% of the seats in the City Council (seven each), and the group of Others at least 2 (two) seats, regardless of election results.
