Vlastimir Mijović Passes Away

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Dean of BiH journalism Vlastimir Mijović passed away tonight in Sarajevo.

One of the legends of domestic and regional journalism, he fought a difficult battle with cancer, which he ultimately lost.

Vlastimir Mijović was born in Foča in 1956. He completed primary school, high school, and the Faculty of Political Sciences – Journalism Department in Sarajevo, where he has lived since 1964. 

During thirty years of professional work in journalism, he worked in various media outlets.

He began his career in 1979, when he started working as a journalist for Naši dani (today's magazine Dani), and already in 1980, he became the editor of domestic politics for this newspaper. From 1981 to 1985, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Naši dani (the youngest in the history of SFR Yugoslavia). 

From 1985 to 1988, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Mladost from Belgrade, and after that, he moved and became a political commentator for the daily newspaper Oslobođenje. 

He held this journalistic position from 1988 to 1990, and from 1990 to 1995, he worked as a permanent correspondent for Oslobođenje from Moscow. From 1995 to 1996, he served as the editor-in-chief of the Oslobođenje newspaper, foreign edition, which was based in Ljubljana. In 1996, he became the deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine Svijet, and during 1996 and 1997, he was the assistant editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Oslobođenje. 

From 2000 to 2001, he was also the responsible editor of the newspaper Poslovne novosti, and from 2001 to 2003, he was the editor-in-chief of the English-language daily newspaper Bosnia Daily. From 2003 to 2005, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Poslovne novosti. From 2005 to 2007, he was the editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Strogo pov, and from 2007 to 2008, he was the editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Oslobođenje.
