(Patria) - Kuwaiti Emir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah (91) passed away today in a hospital in the United States of America.
The news was confirmed by the Minister of the Diwan Affairs Council Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al Sabah in a televised address. The Kuwaiti Emir will be succeeded by his brother Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah was hospitalized on September 9 in a hospital in the United States of America (USA) and canceled a planned meeting with US President Donald Trump.
The Emir was a respected leader and an important partner of the USA in combating challenges in the region, the White House announced earlier.
Sheikh Sabah has been at the head of Kuwait since January 2006, and previously held various diplomatic positions. He initiated the process of overcoming the current crisis in relations between Qatar and the bloc of Gulf countries led by Saudi Arabia. He also organized important donor conferences for the reconstruction of war-torn Iraq and Syria.
