Hasan Čengić Passes Away

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Hasan Čengić, one of the founders of SDA, a politician, and a long-time member of the bodies of the Islamic Community in BiH, passed away at the age of 65. The news was announced by his acquaintances on social networks, as well as by the former Reis of the Islamic Community in BiH, Mustafa ef. Cerić.

Čengić was born in 1957 in Foča and graduated from the Faculty of Islamic Theology in Sarajevo. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

In the process against Muslim intellectuals in Sarajevo in 1983, he was sentenced to ten years in prison under articles 136 and 133 of the Criminal Code of the SFRY. He served five years in prison based on a final verdict for "verbal offense" under article 133. From 1988 to 1990, he worked at the Islamic Center in Zagreb - Republic of Croatia. From 1990 to 1992, he held the position of technical, and then general secretary at the headquarters of the Party of Democratic Action. From 1992 to 1996, he was the head of logistics abroad in the General Staff of the Army of BiH. From February to December 1996, he was the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Federation of BiH. From 1998 to 2002, he was a member of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH and the president of the Commission for the Return of Refugees and Displaced Persons. He was also a member of the Commission for Defense and Security in the Parliament of the FBiH. Awards: Golden Badge PL and Silver Shield OSRBiH.

Čengić is the former president of the Sabor of the Islamic Community, and three days ago he was accompanying Reis Husein ef. Kavazović during a visit to Turkey.
