General of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Stjepan Šiber passes away

Retired General of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Stjepan Šiber passed away today in Sarajevo at the age of 78. This sad news was confirmed to Radiosarajevo.ba by members of his family, reports the Patria news agency. 

Stjepan Šiber was born on June 20, 1938, in Gradačac, where he completed primary and secondary school, after which he went to Ljubljana to finish the Military Academy. He then became an active officer of the JNA, who through a series of promotions, reached the rank of JNA colonel in 1992.

In April 1992, with the start of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Stjepan Šiber made himself available to the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose authorities appointed him as deputy chief/commander of the Staff of the Supreme Command of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In 1993, the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina promoted Šiber to the rank of General of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and sent him into diplomacy as a military attaché in Switzerland.

Stjepan Šiber will be remembered as part of the multinational leadership of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sefer Halilović, Jovan Divjak, Stjepan Šiber) which existed in full until the end of 1993.
