Dragan Bijedić, prominent Mostar architect and son of Džemal Bijedić, passes away

(Patria) - Dragan Bijedić, a prominent Mostar architect who left a lasting mark on BiH architecture with his modernist and socialist style, has passed away.

Dragan Bijedić was the son of Mostar politician Džemal Bijedić, and his work established him among the most renowned architects in BiH.

Bijedić was known as the creator of some of the most recognizable buildings in Mostar and Sarajevo, which became symbols of socialist construction in former Yugoslavia due to their unique design and functionality.

He is best known for the "Staklena banka" (Privredna banka Sarajevo) project in Mostar, built in the 1980s. This building, located in the city center, became a symbol of the war past.

Although it remained a ruin after the war, its powerful presence in the city symbolizes Mostar's enduring connection to its past and architectural heritage, thus preserving Bijedić's work in collective memory.

Additionally, Bijedić collaborated with architect Mladen Gvozden on the residential building project "Papagajka" in Sarajevo. This colorful building, constructed in 1990 and known for its pop-art inspired facade, added a recognizable character to the city and attracted public attention due to its unique combination of colors and shapes.

Bijedić's work reflects the aesthetics and vision of modernist architecture, and his contribution leaves a deep mark on Bosnian-Herzegovinian urbanism.

His passing represents a great loss for the architectural community and all who recognize the value of his work.
