(Patria) - John Menzies, former US Ambassador to BiH, passed away today at the age of 74. US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeff Hovenier bid farewell to John Menzies.
"We mourn the loss of a colleague and distinguished diplomat, Ambassador John Menzies. John was an unwavering advocate for Kosovo's sovereignty and independence. As a diplomat and teacher, he built lasting bridges between the Balkans, the Middle East, and the United States," Hovenier wrote on Twitter.
Numerous Kosovo officials, including Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, have bid farewell to Menzies.
John Menzies served as the Ambassador of the United States to Bosnia and Herzegovina from January 7 to December 15, 1996. Before his ambassadorship in BiH, he also participated in the Dayton negotiations, tasked with mediating between the negotiators.
He later advocated for the organization of "Dayton 2" as a solution to the political crisis in BiH and the elimination of ethnic provisions in the BiH Constitution.
He also served as the Head of the US Mission in Kosovo during 1999. He also served in US diplomatic missions in Hungary, East Germany, and Bulgaria, reports SB.
