Bosnian writer and FTV journalist Matias Zečević passed away

(Patria) - Writer and Federal Television journalist Matias Zečević passed away in Zagreb at the age of 30 after a short and severe illness.

According to unofficial information, he was being treated for an infection that affected his lungs in Zagreb.

The Mayor of Odžak municipality, Anes Osmanović, wrote that he and Zečević spent a lot of time together and looked forward to his progress in treatment.

"Come on, seventh estate, for a coffee, and here he comes, Matias. We spent so much time together and got along really well.

I was looking forward to his progress in treatment and prayed to God in my own way for him to endure everything and overcome the illness, so we could have coffee again as soon as possible.

And today, bang – this sad news. If there was ever a profile of a fine young man, the best one was Matias.

Rest in God's peace, may his noble soul rest in peace. I pray to God to give his family much strength to endure the pain," Osmanović stated.

Zečević was born in Slavonski Brod. He finished high school gymnasium in Odžak, and obtained a master's degree in journalism at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Mostar.

In 2019, his first novel titled "Waiting for Dawn" was published, inspired by the lives of people in Bosanska Posavina.

This novel was presented in more than 40 cities, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, as well as in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.

Two years later, in 2021, his second novel "Capricious Waters" was released, which was also presented in a number of cities.

This novel is a continuation of the story from the first novel, and particularly focuses on the floods in Posavina in 2014.

He worked as a correspondent from Posavina for the news and morning programs at Federal Television since 2022.

In January 2024, he was also appointed director of the company "Prevoz-Turist" Odžak.

For his work, he was awarded the Municipal Award for outstanding contribution in the field of cultural development and promotion of the Municipality of Odžak.

He is also the recipient of the "Meho Puzić" Golden Plaque, awarded to him by the association of the same name in Odžak.

The date and place of his funeral will be announced in the coming days.
