Academician Tvrtko Kulenović Passes Away

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Academician, professor, and writer Tvrtko Kulenović has passed away in Sarajevo.

Bosnian literature and culture have lost a unique figure in the literary and cultural life of Bosnia and Herzegovina over the past half-century.

Among other positions, he was a long-time professor and professor emeritus at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, the first president of PEN-centre of BiH, director of the National Theatre in Sarajevo, and a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH.

He emerged in literature in the late sixties of the 20th century and published more than 20 books of travelogues, short stories, radio dramas, and novels, including books in the fields of literary theory and theatre studies.

For his work, he received several significant awards, including the Sixth of April Award of the City of Sarajevo (1975), and was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
