(Patria) - 22-year-old Adnan Šemić from Mostar, due to whom the Law on Organ and Tissue Transplantation for Treatment Purposes was changed, has passed away. This news was confirmed to N1 by donor Željko Mijailović from Loznica.
Adnan had been battling Wilson's disease for a long time, and liver transplantation attempts were made several times, but unfortunately, he was rejected each time because he did not have a donor with whom he was related by blood or kinship.
The public rallied, and in record time, at extraordinary sessions of both Houses of Parliament, amendments were unanimously adopted that would have allowed him to receive a portion of the liver from a donor with whom he was not related by blood.
It was expected in the coming days that his liver would be transplanted at a clinic in Tuzla, where specialists were supposed to come and perform the demanding surgery, but unfortunately, Adnan's heart could not endure.
