Macedonian singer of Roma music and prominent artist Esma Redžepova passed away this morning in Skopje at the age of 73, after a short and serious illness, local media report, as carried by Patria.
Redžepova was admitted to a Skopje hospital two weeks ago with a serious health condition.
Esma Redžepova Teodosijevska was called the Queen of Roma Music and was known worldwide for performing this music, and since 2013 she also held the title of National Artist of Macedonia.
The singer, who was popular in the Balkan region, was known not only for her music but also for her humanitarian work, having adopted and raised 47 children.
She participated in top world music festivals and events. Esma, as emphasized, was a true musical ambassador in the world.
She held more than 12,000 solo concerts in Macedonia and abroad, and Esma Redžepova's discography includes 15 albums for domestic and international production houses, and she collaborated with eminent world music names.
