(Patria) - The construction of the capital project of the railway to Hrasnica was visited today by the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk and the Mayor of Ilidža Municipality Nermin Muzur, along with the Minister of Transport Adnan Šteta.
Minister Šteta, together with engineers from the Ministry of Transport involved in the tram line construction project from Ilidža to Hrasnica, informed the Prime Minister and the Mayor about the current works, as well as future activities to be carried out on this major project.
“I am pleased that we are together on the ground and that we can inform the Prime Minister and the Mayor about all the details of this very demanding project. Our cooperation is key to the successful implementation of a project that has only been talked about for years. This is the first expansion of the tram line since 1962. Different types of works are being carried out on the first and second sections, with a total length of 3.8 kilometers,” stated Minister Šteta.
As highlighted, on the first section of the line, 1.8 kilometers long, excavation works have been completed, geotextile has been installed, and the first layer of ballast has been laid. On the second section, works on removing humus and excavation have begun. Prime Minister Uk, during the visit, recalled the importance of investing in infrastructure for a better quality of life for citizens.
"The KS Government is working on a multi-decade project that has only been talked about, and today we have the opportunity to realize it. Connecting Hrasnica with Ilidža, and thus with the rest of Sarajevo Canton. The tram line will improve the quality of life for all citizens of this part of the city and open up prospects for further settlement of this very beautiful area," said Prime Minister Uk.
With the construction of the line from Ilidža to Hrasnica, there will be 12.9 kilometers of new track, two new turnarounds in Ilidža and Hrasnica, and 20 new tram stops.
“Through dedicated joint work of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Ministry of Transport, and the Municipality of Ilidža, we have launched a historic project that has been talked about for decades. For our local community and its residents, this project certainly has multiple benefits. In addition to improving safety and transport infrastructure, as well as the quality of life for our citizens, it will provide the main prerequisite for the construction of vertical transport over the Olympic mountain Igman,” said Mayor Muzur.
Expectations are that, if everything goes according to plan, the tram line will be completed during the summer of 2025.
