Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković supports the establishment of the RECOM Initiative

PODGORICA, (Patria) - Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković received a delegation of the Initiative for the establishment of a regional commission for establishing facts about war crimes and other serious human rights violations committed on the territory of the former SFRY from January 1, 1991 to December 31, 2001 (RECOM), led by the Initiative's coordinator Nataša Kandić.

Expressing Montenegro's absolute support for this initiative, whose goal is to create an interstate commission for establishing facts about all victims of wars fought after the breakup of Yugoslavia, the Montenegrin Prime Minister assessed that the civil sector has done much in this regard, but that it is now necessary to involve state institutions throughout the region for the process to be successfully completed.

- Montenegro wants this initiative to gain the support of all countries in the region so that future generations can have a picture of the ugly part of our past from this process, and never repeat it. We will do everything in our power to make the Initiative come to life - said the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Duško Marković.

The Prime Minister of Montenegro informed his interlocutors that the Initiative will also be considered by the Government of Montenegro, as early as the next session.

- You have not only my support as Prime Minister, but you will, I believe, also have the support of the Government, which will once again demonstrate Montenegro's responsibility and its clear stance of support - said Marković, adding that he is ready to discuss the idea with leaders of the region's countries as well.

Initiative Coordinator Nataša Kandić, public advocate for Montenegro Dragoljub Duško Vuković, and RECOM Initiative spokesperson in Montenegro Tamar Milaš thanked Marković for Montenegro's strong support for the Initiative so far, as well as for the expressed readiness that both the Government and the Prime Minister of Montenegro will continue to support this important process.

- What I expected has happened. So far in Montenegro, we have had all doors open, support from all institutions of government as well as the opposition. That is why I have always felt good as a public advocate for Montenegro, because here this Initiative has never been called into question - said Dragoljub Duško Vuković at the meeting.

Marković and the representatives of the RECOM Initiative agreed that the cooperation processes in the region, strengthened by the Berlin Process, of which the RECOM Initiative is a part, have significantly improved the climate for supporting the Initiative and further strengthening mutual trust in the region.
