Posavina farmers' protests suspended

(Patria) - Farmers from Posavina have suspended their protests. For two days, they first blocked the Orašje - Brčko road, and then the Orašje - Županja border crossing.

The decision to cease the blockade was preceded by a conversation with the relevant federal minister, Kemal Hrnjić, who visited Orašje today.

After almost nine hours, the Orašje - Županja border crossing was unblocked. Around 3 PM, there was a meeting between the relevant minister and representatives of the farmers.

After that meeting, the farmers stated they were not satisfied with what the minister said. However, just two hours later, they unblocked the border crossing and said they would agree to it after all, reports Federalna.

More radical measures were announced, such as blocking the Svilaj border crossing on Monday morning.

- The border crossing has been unblocked. Passage is possible for all vehicle groups. Two and a half million marks have been agreed for wheat support - explained Perica Marošević, president of the Orašje Farmers' Association.

- Today we promised that we will find two and a half million from the funds, as we initially promised. The funds are in the Federation's budget.

We will try to complete all legally foreseen procedures to make them operational in less than two months - said Minister Hrnjić.

Representatives of Posavina farmers will go to Sarajevo on Tuesday to sign all agreed matters with the minister. The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, will also participate in that meeting.
