Session of Mostar City Council interrupted, to continue on February 15

MOSTAR, (Patria) – At the continuation of the session of the Mostar City Council today, 35 councilors were present. 

On the agenda is item five, the second round of voting for the election of the mayor. According to the proposal of Our Party, Boška Ćavar was appointed to the Election Committee.

Councilor of Our Party, Irma Baralija, requested a postponement of today's session until Wednesday so that the proposal of the BH Bloc on the rotation of the mayor of Mostar, which was offered during the day to the presidents of SDA Bakir Izetbegović and HDZ BiH Dragan Čović, could be submitted. Izetbegović accepted the proposal while Čović did not. 

Ivan Zelenika, the presiding officer of the City Council, did not want to put that proposal to a vote and stated that it is contrary to the Statute and Rules of Procedure. He requested that the procedure for the election of the mayor continue. The two remaining candidates in the race are Mario Kordić (HDZ) and Zlatko Guzin (Coalition for Mostar). 

Baralija requested a break for consultations of the councilors' club, and a ten-minute break was declared. The break lasted more than an hour.

After the consultations, the councilors, at the proposal of Irma Baralija, i.e., the BH Bloc, supported the interruption of today's session and its continuation on Monday, February 15, at 4:00 PM. After that session, at which the mayor should finally be elected, an extraordinary session will be held to adopt a decision on temporary financing.

Slaven Bevanda from HRS called on the councilors to be responsible and to conclude the story about the election of the mayor on Monday. 

"This council cannot discuss any political agreement, let's be clear. I ask that we accept responsibility towards the citizens who elected us," said Bevanda. 

Zelenika called on all political parties participating in this City Council to finally take responsibility and not turn the Council into a circus.

"This is nobody's wish list, be serious, responsible, and let's conclude the election of the mayor and start dealing with the problems of the city of Mostar. This further complication of things is really unnecessary for anyone," said Zelenika.
