Negotiations of the troika on the candidate for the Presidency of BiH have 'atrophied' for now

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The parties of the troika that form the government in the Sarajevo Canton, People and Justice, SDP BiH and Our Party, have in recent days focused on amendments to the Election Law, in which representatives of these parties regularly participate at the invitation of the international community, so an agreement on a possible joint candidate for the member of the Presidency of BiH is in the background.

The President of NIP, Elmedin Konaković, said last night on TVSA that the troika's negotiations on the candidate have „atrophied“.

„That was not our focus, and especially that candidacy of one member is not a key issue in our relations. Our hopes are that we will gather around one candidate, it is not at all questionable whether someone from the troika will sit in the Presidency, I am an optimist, I have arguments for that. I hope we will have a joint candidate, if we do not have a joint one and the possibility of an agreement, of course People and Justice will have its own candidate“, said Konaković.

He could not say who would be the candidate of that party for the Presidency of BiH.  

Incidentally, although the troika claims that the coalition is stable, it seems that the real test for their future will be the joint candidate for the Presidency of BiH. From NIP, they left the possibility that it could be Denis Zvizdić, who recently became their member and one of Konaković's two deputies, while SDP rejected the possibility of any support for that candidacy even before Zvizdić moved to NIP.

SDP BiH could nominate Denis Bećirović, who missed victory in the 2018 General Elections by about 18,000 votes. However, although Bećirović previously said he was not interested in the candidacy, under pressure and public desire he could again be one of the main favorites for victory.
