Upcoming elections in BiH can have historical significance

SARAJevo, (Patria) - This year's elections in BiH can have historical significance, as they can lead to a turnaround in the social development of BiH and radical changes in terms of political and economic stability, stated the introductory speakers at the session of the Association of Independent Intellectuals Krug 99.

Introductory speakers at today's Sunday session of the Association of Independent Intellectuals Krug 99 on the topic "Citizen, Civil State and Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina" assessed that although there are more than 50 political entities on the BiH scene, they can be classified into two blocs.

Professor Mirko Pejanović divided the political options that citizens can vote for in this year's General Elections on October 7th into mono-national, or rather mono-ethnic ones that prioritize national issues, and a second bloc consisting of civil options, which he believes have the prerequisites to bring about change.

He is of the opinion that this year's parliamentary elections can have historical significance, but only if citizens go to the polls and vote for those political parties that will stop stagnation and ethnic divisions, the departure of young people, and accelerate BiH's integration into the EU and NATO.

President of Krug 99 Adil Kulenović noted that citizens in socialism hoped for a change to a democratic political system, one in which all civil rights would be guaranteed, but even today, he believes, what was expected has not been achieved.

- Ultimately, this turnaround today represents a betrayal of the ideas of civil society and the imposition of ethno-democracy as the key principle for organizing relations in BiH - emphasized Kulenović.

At today's session, the question was also raised as to why BiH is the only country in the world that is prevented from fully realizing the basic principles of democracy, and attention was also drawn to the pressures from representatives of the authorities of the countries in the region who are imposing principles on BiH that those countries do not want.
