U.S. Representative to the UN Security Council: We will use all instruments against those undermining the Dayton Agreement

(Patria) - The United States Representative to the UN Security Council welcomed the unanimous adoption of the resolution extending the mandate of the EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in his address, he also stated that the US will use "all available instruments" to prevent the undermining of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

“The stability of BiH is crucial for preventing regional conflict, and the US is committed to the principles of Dayton and the common goal of an inclusive, multi-ethnic, democratic, and peaceful BiH,” he stated at the beginning of his address.

He also emphasized the importance of the EUFOR Althea operation, saying it is critically important for maintaining peace and stability in BiH.

“We are alarmed by the recent rhetoric that undermines the Dayton Agreement, as well as the constitutional structure and territorial integrity of BiH. We must continue to protect the state institutions of BiH. Threats of secession, unilateral withdrawal, and the establishment of parallel institutions are dangerous and distract from important reforms taking place in the economic sphere and the rule of law,” the American representative emphasized.

He also warned that our country faces additional challenges such as corruption and stagnation, and called on the authorities in BiH to develop plans that will focus on these problems.

He also expressed support for High Representative Christian Schmidt.

“The High Representative plays a crucial role in strengthening institutions and is important for the prosperity of the citizens of BiH, regardless of their ethnicity. The US supports High Representative Christian Schmidt and the use of his powers, including the Bonn Powers. We also support BiH's path to the EU and its efforts on that path. We will use all available instruments to prevent those who undermine the Dayton Agreement from acting, and we call on everyone to do the same. All members of the Council should support BiH in achieving these EU accession goals,” he concluded.
