Representatives of the US, UK and France in the Security Council: The situation in BiH is not as presented by Russia

(Patria) - An emergency session of the UN Security Council on Bosnia and Herzegovina was convened tonight in New York at the request of the Russian Federation.

Deputy US Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood believes that this session is an attempt to use the Council to highlight the ethnonationalist threat coming from one side. Russia is using this Council to monitor them for its own purposes.

He called for avoiding the agenda of ethnonationalism.



Like most speakers, Wood also points out that officials of the RS entity led by Dodik, who deny the genocide in Srebrenica, represent a serious concern.

- To be clear, Srebrenica was not a mistake, as he says. It is indeed an established fact - Wood said, adding that international courts have determined the genocide in Srebrenica.

Wood said the US will continue to sanction those who support Dodik's policies and noted that Dodik is taking steps to undermine state institutions and regularly calls for the dissolution of BiH, and that his dangerous actions and secessionist rhetoric threaten the peace and stability of the region.

Political Coordinator of the United Kingdom Fergus Eckersley stressed that the current situation in BiH did not require an emergency session of the UN Security Council.

- We support the BiH authorities in working on the next steps for EU negotiations. We call on leaders from the RS to stop the rhetoric of division. We are deeply concerned by the glorification of war crimes and the denial of genocide.



Denial of crimes does not lead to reconciliation. The court ruled that genocide was committed in Srebrenica and the judges clearly assessed that this is not a verdict against the Serbian people - he added.

Deputy Permanent Representative of France to the UN Nathalie Broadhurst believes that Russia presents an image of BiH as if it will collapse, and that France does not share such a view.

- We are concerned about the actions of the RS. The President of the RS has expressed concerning views. We condemn the adoption of the law on foreign agents in the RS.



We do not agree with Russia's assessment that the situation in BiH is deteriorating, however, the threats of the President of the RS are a threat to stability - said the French representative.

She added that the resolution on Srebrenica is not a condemnation of the people, but a call to prevent such atrocities in the future.

- This resolution calls for reconciliation - added the French representative.
