(Patria) - The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina today adopted the Agreement with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), Hayat learns, which represents a key step in strengthening operational cooperation between the EU and the competent authorities in BiH regarding migration management.
The decision was made unanimously, and the agreement will be forwarded for signature to the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Borjana Krišto, thereby officially entering into force.
Recall, earlier this year the Council of Ministers of BiH approved the provisional application of the Agreement on operational activities carried out by Frontex in BiH.
The Ministry of Security of BiH was then tasked with submitting a report on the negotiations to the Presidency of BiH, along with a proposal that Krišto be the signatory of the agreement.
This agreement enables the organization of joint operations between Frontex border guards and BiH, and provides for the deployment of Frontex teams on the territory of BiH.
The goal is to provide support in managing migration flows, combating illegal immigration, and suppressing cross-border crime.
The agreement also allows Frontex, with the consent of the countries, to carry out activities at the borders of third countries, including border checks and registration of persons.
According to the new rules of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, which have been in force since 2019, Frontex has the authority to perform executive functions in third countries, including border surveillance and control.
