BiH Presidency meets with Ambassador Williamson, Brčko District on agenda

This statement followed his communication with Clint Williamson, Chairman of the Arbitration Tribunal for Brčko, who emphasized that the Tribunal is closely monitoring current developments in BiH, and now Williamson is arriving in BiH.

Crishock and Williamson jointly emphasized that Brčko District, according to the Final Decision of the Arbitration Tribunal, as well as the Constitution of BiH, exists within the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is subject to its institutions.

Any attempt to jeopardize the state order could have serious consequences for the status of the district and its special position within BiH.

They specifically pointed to threats coming from the political leadership of Republika Srpska, which are directed against state institutions and the constitutional order.

Such moves, warned Supervisor Crishock, can lead to serious destabilization and disruption of political stability in BiH, as well as in Brčko District, which has a special status as a multi-ethnic community under international supervision.

- I call on all political actors to respect the independence of the judiciary and to refrain from any actions that would undermine the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina or weaken state institutions.

Any destabilization in this regard could have long-term consequences, including the possibility that the Arbitration Tribunal will reconsider the compliance of certain actions with the provisions of the Final Decision - emphasized Crishock.

The Supervisor concluded that international actors will continue to closely monitor the situation and react if necessary, in order to preserve peace and stability in Brčko District and BiH.

Given all the steps taken by the authorities in Republika Srpska and the adoption of unconstitutional laws that undermine state institutions, as well as the Dayton Peace Agreement, it is time for the international community to take decisive steps regarding the newly emerged situation.
