(Patria) - The President of the Palestinian Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Majed Marouf, sent letters of gratitude to the governments and peoples of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal for their decision to recognize the State of Palestine and their continuous support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Dr. Marouf reminded that Israel is the only state founded on the basis of United Nations Resolution 181 from November 1947, which provided for the partition of Mandate Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state, while Jerusalem was to be under international trusteeship. He emphasized that Israel has continuously ignored UN resolutions and international conventions since then, carrying out, as he said, "organized state terrorism" against the Palestinian people and states in the region.
Marouf assessed the decision of the mentioned countries as a historically important, albeit belated, step towards correcting the injustice that the Palestinian people have been exposed to for more than a century – from the Balfour Declaration to the present day, marked by suffering and denial of the right to self-determination.
The President of the Palestinian Community in BiH called on the international community to continue acting in the same direction and to recognize the State of Palestine within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with UN resolutions. Such a move, he stressed, would represent a key contribution to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
