US and North Korean presidents sign 'historic' declaration

SINGAPORE, (Patria) - US President Donald Trump and his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un met in Singapore and at the end of the meeting, which the world calls historic, signed a declaration. The content of the document signed by the two presidents will be released soon.

An unnamed US official explained that it is "an agreement confirming progress in the talks and a promise to continue at the same pace."

Trump confirmed that he will invite Kim to the White House and that the process of denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula will begin very soon. 

- The world will see a big change. We have decided to leave the past behind us - Kim said.

The historic meeting between Kim and Trump began with a cordial handshake in front of North Korean and US flags. They then walked through a colonnade to the library where they spoke one-on-one, with interpreters. That conversation lasted about forty minutes, after which they were joined by members of their delegations.

- I think the whole world is watching us. Many people thought this was science fiction. I think this is a good introduction to peace - Kim told the US president.

Trump said he is confident their relationship will be "great."

- I really feel excellent. This will be a great meeting and a great success. I think it will be a real success and our relationship will be great, I have no doubt about that - Trump said.

Kim replied: "It was not easy to get here. In the past, many obstacles were in our way, but we overcame them all and now we are here today."

Asked by reporters how the talks went, Trump said: "Great progress - really very positive. I think it was better than anyone expected. Top-notch, very good."

 

 

The meeting between Kim and Trump, as the first meeting between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader since the end of the Korean War in 1950-1953, was unthinkable just a few months ago when they exchanged insults, causing fear in the world of a possible nuclear war.
