Chairman Zvizdić in Durrës: Deepen economic integration in the region

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić attended an informal meeting of the six Western Balkan prime ministers today in Durrës, Albania.

The meeting discussed the implementation and improvement of the obligations from the Action Plan for deepening economic integration in the region, which the prime ministers agreed upon at the Summit in Trieste in July this year. They agreed that it is very important for the entire region that the measures envisaged by this action plan be implemented as soon as possible, and that the implementation of the defined tasks will strengthen the economies of the countries in the region and improve the candidate countries for entry into the European Union. The regional economic area will thus become more attractive to investors, competitiveness in the global market will be ensured, and export capacities will be improved.

The importance of the digital transformation of society and economies in the Western Balkan region was also emphasized. The Western Balkan region must seize the opportunities offered by digitalization to become a more desirable place for business and new investments, but also to better position digitally equipped, trained, and networked companies from the region in the international market. It was stated that the digital transformation of society is a prerequisite for increasing the efficiency of the public sector and improving overall business conditions and competitiveness, as well as for faster economic development and growth.

The meeting expressed commitment to further activities on the path of European integration and emphasized that such activities also include strengthening the competitiveness of the Western Balkan region.

Participants of today's meeting in Durrës announced the organization of conferences in the coming period, where serious regional investment projects will be presented, and for which everyone expressed interest.

The goal of today's informal meeting of the prime ministers of the Western Balkan countries in Durrës is to strengthen and deepen regional cooperation and bring the Western Balkans closer to the European Union. It was concluded that a structural dialogue between the six economies and the private sector should be initiated in the coming period.
