Proposal for professionalization of the Deputy Chairman position in Novo Sarajevo Council, Spahić warns it's a luxury

(Patria) - Head of the Party for BiH councilors' club in the Municipal Council (OV) Novo Sarajevo Adnan Spahić warns that the upcoming session of the OV will, among other things, include a proposal for the professionalization of the Deputy Chairman of the OV position.

Spahić believes this is the first test for the ruling five in the Novo Sarajevo OV (SDP, Our Party, NiP, Platform, Naprijed).

He also states that it involves a gross monthly salary of 5,000 KM, plus additional privileges such as a company phone, representation expenses, and a driver for this position.

Spahić questions whether this is a responsible use of public funds, especially in a situation "where we are facing numerous problems in our local community – such as unmanaged communal services, lack of infrastructure for young and old, and chronic unemployment".

He is of the opinion that such a proposal appears to be a luxury that citizens cannot afford.

"Unfortunately, it seems that the goal of this decision is more focused on satisfying political ambitions than on the actual needs of the citizens.

The Municipality of Novo Sarajevo already allocates significant funds for administration, and the additional costs for this position would create unnecessary pressure on the budget.

I remind you that the function of the Deputy Chairman can be effectively performed without such privileges, as has been the case until now.

I call on my fellow councilors, as well as the citizens of Novo Sarajevo, to critically consider this agenda item.

Our duty is to be responsible to the people who have given us their trust, not to further burden their budget," Spahić stated in a post on his Facebook profile.

At the constitutive session of the Novo Sarajevo OV, Edison Pavlović from Our Party was elected as the chairman, who will have three deputies – Samir Suljević (SDP), Arslan Dučić (NiP), and Adnan Zeković (Naprijed).

It is not clear from councilor Spahić's reaction whether the proposal is to professionalize the status of all three Deputy Chairmen of the OV.
