Detention proposed for five and travel bans for six suspects

After questioning the suspects, the acting prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption will submit a proposal to the Court of BiH for the detention of 5 suspects and travel bans for 6 suspects for the criminal offense of organizing a group or association for the commission of the criminal offense of smuggling illegal migrants from Article 189a of the Criminal Code of BiH, the BiH Prosecutor's Office announced, reports Patria News Agency.

The suspects are under investigation by the BiH Prosecutor's Office, and detention measures for 5 suspects will be proposed for reasons described in Article 132 of the Criminal Procedure Code of BiH, paragraph 1, points a), b), and c), namely due to the risk of the suspects fleeing, the risk that they might obstruct the investigation, conceal evidence, or influence witnesses or accomplices while at liberty, as well as the risk that they might commit a new criminal offense or complete an ongoing one while at liberty.

Travel bans will be proposed for 6 individuals, and will include, among other things, a ban on travel for the suspects and a ban on meeting with witnesses and suspects in the case.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation in a case codenamed "Dardaneli", which is being carried out in cooperation with the judiciary and police of the countries in the region, Croatia and Montenegro, and is aimed at identifying and prosecuting individuals suspected of smuggling a large number of illegal migrants, mainly from Turkey, Syria, and the Middle East, through BiH to Croatia, through which the perpetrators of criminal offenses have realized significant illegal property benefits.

The investigation in the case is ongoing.
