Orthodox Christians welcome Christmas, traditional badnjak lighting held in Zenica

In the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Zenica, a prayer was held, after which the Badnjak - an oak branch - was traditionally lit, the day before the most joyful Orthodox holiday of Christmas, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- This is a holiday of peace, love and mutual harmony. Christmas calls us to live in brotherly love and love for God and in evangelical humility. Let us never do to others what we do not want others to do to us. We need to show that
we should be and that we are a people of God's love, a people who, despite all the temptations of this age, can be faithful and honorable. Besides bringing us great joy, Christ brings us and gives us God's peace, that is why the Christmas celebration begins with "Peace of God, Christ is born" - stated priest Marko Maleš.

The Christmas liturgy will be held on January 7 at 6 a.m.
