LEGAL VICTORY: Bosniak children must be taught Bosnian as their mother tongue in textbooks

(Patria) - Lawyer Haris Kaniža announced happy news yesterday on his Facebook profile about a legal victory over the injustice of the system in Republika Srpska, which is systematically carried out against Bosniaks in that entity.

"Almost two years ago, a group of parents from Janja authorized me to represent them due to the prohibition of naming and registering their mother tongue as the Bosnian language. At the school in Janja near Bijeljina. After that, I filed a lawsuit against Republika Srpska and the primary school. The Basic Court in Bijeljina ruled in favor of the Bosnian language on Friday," wrote Kaniža.

He adds that the court found discrimination by Republika Srpska, unequal treatment of Bosniak children in this regard, and a violation of the right to equal treatment.

"Therefore, it ordered Republika Srpska and the school to eliminate discrimination and ensure the right to use the Bosnian language as their mother tongue in all documents, as well as an order to cease their current practices. At this moment, this verdict is very important, and I am truly glad that I succeeded in this procedure, together with the parents who authorized me to represent their rights and interests," concluded Kaniža.
