Renowned Swedish and Sarajevo Pediatric Surgeons Collaborating on Most Complex Surgical Procedures

Renowned European pediatric surgeons Prof. Dr. Peter Drott, Prof. Dr. Sven Mattsoni, and Gunilla Glad Mattson from the Pediatric Surgery Clinic at the University Hospital in Linköping, Sweden, spent several days at the Pediatric Surgery Clinic of the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo, where they, together with Sarajevo doctors, performed a series of complex surgical procedures on several children, reports the Patria News Agency.

The head of the Sarajevo Pediatric Surgery Clinic, Assis. Prof. Dr. Zlatan Zvizdić, stated that the surgeons performed a series of surgical procedures, and together with the Swedish doctors, five children with so-called unilateral or bilateral vesicoureteral reflux were operated on, where endoscopic correction with Deflux was applied.

- Deflux is a substance instilled under the opening of the ureter into the bladder, yielding excellent results, almost equivalent to surgical treatment – said Dr. Zvizdić, adding that the doctors also helped three children with one of the most severe congenital defects – posterior urethral valves – which can completely damage the upper urinary tract. In addition to this, a number of other procedures and diagnostic interventions were performed.

The goal of the Swedish doctors' visit is to develop pediatric surgery in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. Their collaboration with the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo will continue, reports NAP.
