Return of the Blues' Favourite: Samir Bekrić Signs a 3.5-Year Contract

The favourite of the fans from Grbavica, Samir Bekrić, today signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with FK Željezničar, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Samir Bekrić was born on 20 October 1984 in Tuzla. He went through the youth academy of Gradina from Srebrenik, and in 2007 he came to Željezničar. He then left, for a record transfer fee, to Incheon United. Before returning in 2012 to Grbavica, he played for Kazakhstan's Tobol. After playing a season with Želja, he went to Iran where he played for Mes Kerman, Fajr Sepasi, and his last season he played in Uzbekistan for Bunyodkor.

Samir has played 145 matches for Želja and scored 34 goals. Bekrić will wear the number 10 shirt in the Blue jersey, and Želja expresses hope that with his playing and human qualities he will establish himself as a leader to all footballers, especially to our young players.

– I am glad to be back at Grbavica. I was impressed by the project of the Club, Mr. Misimović and his associates, and of course boss Mulalić, who wanted me specifically as the leader and captain of the team for the return to the place where we belong! I thank the fans who once again played an important role, I am glad that I was their first wish, and once again a big thank you to everyone - said Bekrić, adding that everyone will see a new Želja in the spring.
