On the occasion of BiH Independence Day, a diverse musical and entertainment program at BKC

(Patria) - On the occasion of March 1st – Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a series of musical, entertainment-educational, and archival-exhibition programs and content will be held at the Bosnian Cultural Center KS, under the auspices of the Government of Sarajevo Canton in cooperation with the City of Sarajevo.

The celebration program for one of the most significant holidays of our country begins on Friday, February 27, 2026, with the parade of students "On the Bridge of Remembrance, Towards Freedom," from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The meeting point is in front of the "Bristol" hotel.

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM, the gallery of BKC will host "Encounter with Falcons." Within the program, members of the Falconry Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina will present the tradition of falconry in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A short lecture will be held on the history of falconry and the traditional way of hunting with falcons and birds of prey. Visitors will have the opportunity to talk with representatives of the Association, as well as to see rare species of birds of prey – falcons and owls – live.

At 2:00 PM, in the foyer of BKC, an award ceremony will be held for the best visual art, literary, and video works by primary and secondary school students in KS on the theme "It is beautiful to grow up in an independent homeland." The program is organized in cooperation with the Public Institution "Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education of Sarajevo Canton".

On the same day, two exhibitions thematically related to key moments in the contemporary history of BiH will be opened at BKC. At 5:00 PM, the exhibition "Firefighters in Wartime Sarajevo" by Milomir Kovačević – Strašni will be held. The exhibition opens a memory of the difficult time of great destruction, but also of the strength and dignity of Sarajevo, and represents a modest, but deeply sincere tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and humanity of the silent heroes of Sarajevo, people who, by saving the city, also saved its soul.

The exhibition "Culture of Remembrance: Press; Referendum on the Independence of BiH" presents a review of newspaper headlines from the period before and during the referendum on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. This event aims to remind the public, through archival material, of the importance of the media in the process of forming collective memory and preserving historical truth.

In the Grand Hall of BKC at 8:00 PM, a gala concert will be held by two musical divas – renowned artists, Sandra Bagarić and Amira Medunjanin. Due to limited seating capacity in the hall, free tickets for this concert will be available for pickup at the BKC ticket office starting February 23, 2026.

Admission to all programs is free.
