On the occasion of 20 years of peace: A big cycling race in Sarajevo on June 15

The capital of BiH will also host a major cycling event this year, which will be held on June 15, 2015, Zlatko Berbić, president of the Cycling Federation of BiH, told the Patria agency.

- As we had the Sarajevo Grand Prix last year, we have a continuation this year, but this year the occasion is 20 years of peace – Berbić said.

Two races will be organized for professionals and recreational cyclists. Professionals will cover a distance of 140 km through 14 municipalities, while a race will be organized for recreational cyclists in more attractive locations than last year.

As Berbić previously told Patria, Sarajevo needs a cycling path to open a new chapter in tourism.

- We want people to come for summer tourism in the future, to be able to rent a bicycle in every hotel and spend time using bicycles as a means of transport, to tour the city, go to the mountains, and be safe in traffic – Berbić said.

Otherwise, the construction of a cycling path began last year, with a length of 7 kilometers from Nedžarići to Skenderija. It should be completed next year, and it will include horizontal and vertical signage, illumination, rest areas with benches and fountains, and Wi-Fi services will be available.
