First-instance verdict confirmed: General Ramiz Dreković is definitively a free man

(Patria) - General of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ramiz Dreković has been acquitted of all charges, Politicki.ba has learned.

In the second-instance proceedings, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina rejected the appeal of the BiH Prosecutor's Office and confirmed the first-instance verdict.

Dreković is thus definitively a free man.

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina rendered a first-instance acquittal verdict in the case of Ramiz Dreković on May 17 this year.

"The accused Ramiz Dreković is acquitted of the charge based on the provision of Article 284, point c) of the Criminal Procedure Code of BiH.

The indictment of the BiH Prosecutor's Office accused the defendant of committing the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population under Article 142, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

The indictment states, among other things, that the accused Ramiz Dreković, during the state of war and armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, between the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Army of Republika Srpska, as commander of the 4th Corps of the ARBiH, acted contrary to the rules of international humanitarian law by ordering an attack on the predominantly Serb civilian population of Kalinovik and an attack without target selection by shelling the area of the settlement of Kalinovik between May 21, 1995, and June 7, 1995," the first-instance verdict, rendered on May 17, states.
