Indictment confirmed against Bašalić who helped Sejfović organize his escape

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo has confirmed the indictment of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office against Elvir Bašalić, nicknamed „Žuti“ and „Žužu“, for the criminal offense of organized crime in connection with the criminal offense of enabling the escape of a person deprived of liberty, specifically the defendant Amel Sejfović, the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton announced.

The defendant is charged with becoming a member of a group organized by Amel Sejfović for his escape from custody from the beginning of June to September 2017. The defendant Bašalić, who was in France at the time, acted on the instructions of Sejfović, who devised the escape plan from the Sarajevo Correctional Facility. Thus, Bašalić procured a means of transport for the escape, hired already indicted persons in this case who were to take him to a safe location after the escape, then determined the escape route, sought accommodation where he was to hide, and provided assistance with food and clothing needed for the realization of the escape and his stay at large. The defendant also maintained intensive communication with Sejfović via mobile phones, using encrypted messages. Each letter was replaced by a specific symbol, and the codebook was shared among members of this organized crime group.    
 
The Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton reminds that after eight days of escape from the Correctional Facility, Amel Sejfović was found in the place Buci in Visoko and arrested by members of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior.

The acting prosecutor of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, along with the indictment, proposed to the court the extension of custody for the defendant Elvir Bašalić.
