Direct Sarajevo - Girona Airline Confirmed to Continue in 2026

(Patria) - A delegation of Sarajevo Canton, led by Minister of Economy Zlatko Mijatović, visited Girona, where a meeting was held with Deputy President of the Government of Girona Gemma Geis and Vice President of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board Joan Plana.

During the meeting, the results of the direct Sarajevo - Girona airline were discussed, as well as the activities necessary to ensure its continuation and development in the coming period.

It was confirmed that the line will continue operating during the winter season, as well as in the spring-summer period of 2026. This guarantees its continuity and strengthens long-term cooperation between the two regions.

The direct Sarajevo - Girona connection, established for the first time in 2025, represents a historic breakthrough as it is the first direct airline linking the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina with Spain.

From the start of operations until October 31 this year, 21,973 passengers were recorded on 140 flights, with an average aircraft occupancy rate in July exceeding 90%, confirming strong passenger interest, both from tourists and business travelers.

Minister Mijatović emphasized that this line is much more than an air connection.

- It represents a bridge of cooperation between Girona and Sarajevo, economically, touristically, and culturally. We continue to work on strengthening it, as it brings concrete benefits to citizens, the economy, and the tourism sector of Sarajevo Canton - said Mijatović.

Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Kingdom of Spain Vesna Andree Zaimović stressed that this line clearly shows the mutual intention to deepen cooperation and increase exchange between the two countries.

On behalf of the hosts, Joan Plana recalled that the connection between Girona and Sarajevo has deep roots.

- Solidarity with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially with Sarajevo, has lasted since the war years. Today's cooperation through the airline represents a modern continuation of these ties and a strong impetus for the tourism and economic development of both regions - said Plana.

According to official data from Sarajevo International Airport, the two-millionth passenger was recorded in November this year, which is an important indicator of air traffic growth and increased connectivity of Sarajevo with European destinations, including the new Sarajevo - Girona line.

During the visit of the BiH delegation, the tourist offer of Sarajevo Canton was presented, and meetings were held with representatives of the tourism and business sectors of Girona and Sarajevo, where it was emphasized that this line opens new opportunities for the development of tourism, economy, investments, and institutional cooperation.
