Agreements signed for scholarships for students from the 'Bošnjaci' Fund

(Patria) - Agreements on scholarships for students for the 2025/26 school and academic year from the "Bošnjaci" Fund were signed today at the Student Center of the Islamic Community in Sarajevo.

These are agreements on awarding 66 scholarships to particularly gifted students of the first and second cycle of studies, which recalls an important goal of the Fund's work, assisting the educational process of young generations.

– This is also a message to students to work hard on themselves, because student life passes quickly. It is important to use that precious time they have, which will not come again. I take this opportunity to appeal to all students to, after completing their studies, stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to build it together and live in these areas – stated Edin Omičević, a member of the Fund's Management Board.

The work of the "Bošnjaci" Fund can be supported by all who share the aforementioned values and wish to help the educational path of students and high school students.

Information about the Fund's activities, as well as the parameters based on which scholarship recipients are scored, are available on the official website.

– On this occasion, I also appeal to all people of good will who are in a position to support the work of the Bošnjaci Fund. They can do so through donations, and they can also become waqifs – said Omičević.

In addition to financial assistance, students perceive these scholarships as an incentive that shows their effort is valued and recognized.

Fatih Žgalj from Sarajevo is one of the long-term scholarship recipients, and as a fourth-year physics student at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with an average grade of 10, he understands the work of the "Bošnjaci" Fund as a friendly helping hand.

– Being a scholarship recipient of the "Bošnjaci" Fund means having financial assistance, but also moral support on the path we are all on. This is a motivation for additional commitment and effort to make the next year even better – said Fatih.

He tells his colleagues to recognize in this gathering and carry from it "a light that they will carry further through life.

– It is important that we spread that light further in the lives of other people. With our light, we can ignite countless others, without diminishing its glow. This reminds us that if we want to be helped, we should also help others – Fatih conveyed.

Let us remind you, the "Bošnjaci" Fund was founded in 1997 by the late Alija Izetbegović.

With the intention of improving its work and freeing it from any political or other connotations, in 2001 he endowed his existing property with the note that the income from this endowment be used for the purpose of education, science, and culture, especially for the material support of Gazi Husrev-beg's Madrasa and the First Bosniak Gymnasium in Sarajevo.

By this act, the waqif permanently transferred the endowed property to the ownership of the "Bošnjaci" Fund for the purpose of doing good deeds.

In accordance with Izetbegović's wish, the Fund was re-registered at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, whereby the Vakuf Directorate took over the founding rights over the Fund.
