The Islamic Community in BiH and the Municipality of Vogošća signed a contract today for the construction of three houses for families from the village of Svrake who lost their roofs over their heads during the May landslides, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
The investment is worth 300,000 KM, half of which was provided by the Islamic Community while the other half was donated by the Municipality of Vogošća. The works should be completed by the summer of this year.
Since May 2014, when devastating floods hit the country, the Rijaset of the Islamic Community in BiH has invested more than 2.5 million KM in repairing damaged buildings of citizens and the Islamic Community. Most of the funds were invested in the area of Tuzla Canton, the municipalities of Bosanski Šamac, Doboj, Žepče, Banja Luka, Bihać and Sarajevo.
During the unprecedented floods and landslides that hit a large part of Bosnia and Herzegovina last year, more than 140 landslides, cracks and landslides were triggered in Vogošća. Twenty-three houses were demolished or damaged. Dozens of people were evacuated from their homes.
The hardest hit was in Svrake, where a landslide completely wiped out several houses from the ground, and several residential and auxiliary buildings were damaged or threatened.
The municipal authorities temporarily housed 72 people in the newly built settlement of Rosulje. Local authorities are now making additional efforts to permanently provide a roof over the heads for families whose houses were damaged in the landslides, writes NAP
